Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai International Superyacht Summit 2018
POST SUMMIT INSIGHTS
P&O MARINAS and FABMAR wish to thank all speakers, moderators and attendees who participated in the very successful first edition of the Dubai International Superyacht Summit.
The Dubai International Superyacht Summit, organised by FABMAR and hosted by P&O Marinas, was held in Dubai on 28th of February and 1st of March 2018 with the specific purpose of discussing the opportunities and challenges for the emergence of an “Emirati Riviera” as a yachting destination, indeed a superyacht hub, and winter destination.
The most important aspect of this summit as it unfolded was its implicit acknowledgement of how much work there is to accomplish its stated goal- the development of an “Emirati Riviera”.
After this successful first edition, the good-will and positivity of all players is very pleasing and bodes well for the next edition: The Dubai International Superyacht Summit 2019!

About

The Dubai International Superyacht Summit 2018

At the first edition of the Dubai International Superyacht Summit, expert speakers from around the world and the UAE were almost unanimous in acknowledging the vast potential of the region to become a yachting destination and in stressing the improvements needed to realise this potential.
Local industry leaders, while appreciating the acknowledgement of the country’s potential, and pointing out the massive on-going investment in required infrastructure, were pleasingly paying attention to the challenges spelled out without reservation by the visitors.
There was widespread appreciation of the valuable networking opportunity within the event.

Post Summit Survey
The post summit survey brought up some interesting observations:

“...we know all of the problems and have had no answer to it so far”

“The summit was as expected, with a broad range of information delivered”

“Request more interaction between industry and local authorities”

“A very well organised and insightful event...”

“I request feedback as progress is made”

“...development of a marine lobby group to help pressure government bodies to act on common operational barriers”

FABMAR has produced a comprehensive report on this summit, including all in-summit questions and all post-summit comments received. P&O Marinas will share all of this information with the concerned local authorities with a view to creating a dialog that we believe will bring positive results in the future.
FABMAR will publish developments as they occur on the summit website.

The Dubai International Superyacht Summit 2018

The Dubai International Superyacht Summit 2018 was held at Cruise Terminal 1 in Port Rashid.

The venue was the Cruise Terminal 1, facing the iconic Queen Elizabeth 2.

The Queen Elizabeth 2 made her maiden voyage in 1969 and was one of the last great Transatlantic liners. At 70,327 tons and 963 feet in length with a top speed of 32.5 knots she is one of the fastest and grandest passenger vessels ever built. Queen Elizabeth 2 is considered by many to be the most famous liner in the world. Queen Elizabeth 2 is now docked permanently at Cruise Terminal 1, in Mina Rashid Marina in Dubai.

The Cruise Terminal 1, decorated with original paintings and artwork coming from the Queen Elizabeth 2, was the backdrop to the venue of this Summit and created a unique atmosphere in a region where lifestyle meets marine tradition.

There could not have been a more perfect venue.
